Bellefonte woman accused of creating fake fundraiser for victims of Spring Twp fire

Bellefonte Police and state police have both filed charges against a Centre County woman after she was accused of creating a fake fundraiser to benefit the victims of a December house fire in Spring Township.

According to the affidavit, police were contacted by multiple witnesses to report that 52-year-old Sherry Rossman had allegedly held a sandwich fundraiser, at the Howard VFW, to raise money for the family that lost their home in a fire along Water Street on Dec. 30th.

Upon further investigation, police learned that Rossman had contacted Fisher's Market, in Milesburg, about making the sandwiches, but reportedly never followed up with the business to place the order.

Police say Rossman allegedly collected nearly $350, from 27 customers.

Investigators also noted that the family was reportedly aware of the fundraiser but stated that they never received any money from Rossman.

Police say that Rossman reportedly "left town" with the money.

According to online court records, authorities have filed dozens of counts of various theft-related charges against Rossman.
