6 Sports Throwback: 1967 interview with Clemente
JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) — For our first installment of the 6 Sports Throwback Thursday, we take you all the way back to 1967 for spring training with a Pittsburgh icon -- 18-year MLB veteran and Hall of Famer Roberto Clemente.
At the time of this interview conducted by the late great Bill Wilson, Clemente was coming off an MVP season in which he clubbed 29 homers and would knock another 23 home runs in the 1967 season that would follow.
Clemente would lead the league in hitting for the fourth time at .357.
Wilson asked Clemente, who died in a 1972 plane crash while delivering aid to earthquake victims in Nicaragua, where he likes the baseball and one of the greatest the game has ever seen, wasn't too picky.
Tune in every Thursday at 5:30 p.m. as we take a look back through the WJAC 6 Sports archives as part of WJAC’s 70th anniversary celebration.
