Tucked in the woods, this unique summer camp is celebrating its 12 year

MADISONBURG -- Anne Sullivan recently celebrated 12 years of teaching young musicians across the country how to play the harp.

The weeklong program is held at Krislund Camp in Madisonburg.

"The harp is a difficult instrument, but it's easy to get a beautiful sound out of it," said Sullivan. "The first time you pull the harp against your shoulder and you feel the vibrations, many realize that it's something they want to learn."

Sullivan said she started playing the harp when she was 8 years old. She now teaches young harpists across the county, one of them being from Snow Shoe, for whom she received national recognition.

Alice Statham has played the harp for 12 years.

"Everyone loves the harp so much," she said. "It doesn't matter where you are playing it, someone is going to adore what you are playing."

A long way from home is Megan Uyeno, a Hawaii native.

"It just sounds really cool, and when you have a lot of people playing the harp together, the sound is really pretty," said Uyeno.

The harpists said their time at camp is hard work but incredibly rewarding.
