Humane Society of Somerset County rescues dogs from hurricane aftermath, looking for homes

SOMERSET, Pa. (WJAC) — After Hurricane Laura left thousands of people in Louisiana without a home, some had to surrender their pets. Now, some of the animals have ended up in Western Pennsylvania due to overflowing animal shelters. Thirteen dogs are now at The Humane Society of Somerset County waiting to be adopted.
“The people have lost everything. Everything was devastated. They were really the heroes in this story because they did what was best for their pet and that was to surrender them to an organization that could give them a better life,” said shelter manager, Nancy Dantzig.
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (WJAR) — Officials said a New Hampshire man who was in the stands to watch Sunday's football game at Gillette Stadium in Massachusetts died.

BOALSBURG, Pa. (WJAC) — A possible case of measles was reported Thursday morning in Centre County.
According to a Mount Nittany Health representative, the possible case was reported at the Mount Nittany Physician Group Pediatrics location at Mount Nittany Health in Boalsburg.
The physicians group reported the possible case immediately to the Pennsylvania Department of Health out of an abundance of caution, officials say.

Cambria County, Pa. (WJAC) — A trail of law enforcement vehicles formed a procession through Cambria County on Friday morning, honoring 27-year-old Matthew Krupa who was killed in Texas last week.
Krupa, who was originally from Nanty Glo, was laid to rest at St. Charles Cemetery in Twin Rocks.
His sister, Brittany Russell, said that final tribute from his community is exactly what he would've wanted.

SPRING TOWNSHIP, Pa. (WJAC) — Three children and the driver of a Bellefonte Area School District bus were injured and taken to local hospitals after the bus hit a tree, that’s according to a joint statement from the school district and Spring Township Police Department.
The bus reportedly crashed into a tree, trapping the driver inside just before 8 a.m. Wednesday morning on the 2900 block of Greens Valley Rd., according to the release.
SOMERSET, Pa. — Jamie McVicker, accused of killing his ex-girlfriend Brittney Kyle and attempting to kill her boyfriend in February of last year, will take the stand during his trial, his attorney said Wednesday.
According to police, Kyle and her boyfriend, Tyrell Ferguson, went to McVicker’s house to pick up Kyle’s cats. She and McVicker had recently separated after a long-term relationship.
According to prosecutors, Ferguson called 911 from the car outside McVicker’s house after Kyle started screaming that she had been hit.
Nissan urges owners of 84,000 older vehicles to halt driving due to exploding air bag risk

DETROIT (AP) — Nissan is urging the owners of about 84,000 older vehicles to stop driving them because their Takata air bag inflators have an increased risk of exploding in a crash and hurling dangerous metal fragments.
Wednesday's urgent request comes after one person in a Nissan was killed by an exploding front-passenger inflator, and as many as 58 people were injured since 2015.
Due to the age of the vehicles equipped with defective Takata air bag inflators, there is an increased risk the inflator could explode during an air bag deployment, propelling sharp metal fragments which can cause serious injury or death,"
