Pride Month, the worldwide celebration of LGBTQ+ culture and rights, kicks off Saturday with events around the globe.
But this year's festivities in the U.S. will unfold against a backdrop of dozens of new state laws targeting LGBTQ+ rights, particularly transgender young people.
Here are things to know about the celebrations and the politics around them.
WHY IS JUNE PRIDE MONTH?
The monthlong global celebration began with Gay Pride Week in late June 1970, a public celebration that marked the first anniversary of the violent police raid at New York's Stonewall Inn, a gay bar.
The State College Borough Council approved the collective bargaining agreement for the local union representing its public works and parking employees Wednesday. Mayor Ezra Nanes says it was important to get this done before the new year and talks about what the top priorities are for the borough in the coming months.
The proposed CBA was ratified by the local American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) union last week.
MADISONBURG -- Anne Sullivan recently celebrated 12 years of teaching young musicians across the country how to play the harp.
The weeklong program is held at Krislund Camp in Madisonburg.
"The harp is a difficult instrument, but it's easy to get a beautiful sound out of it," said Sullivan. "The first time you pull the harp against your shoulder and you feel the vibrations, many realize that it's something they want to learn.
DuBois, PA — Due to the pandemic, the WPAL Fitness Center in DuBois postponed their Wicked Warrior event to Labor Day Weekend. Aaron Beatty, Director of the WPAL Fitness Center, said they had over 600 participants in their Wicked Warrior Event last year.
This year's event was originally scheduled for the weekend of July 24th but due to the pandemic they postponed it to September 5 & 6.
The Wicked Warrior event is a Mud Run/Obstacle Course with a 5k/10k and a giant Slip n Slide.

Clearfield Co., PA (WJAC) — 911 officials in Clearfield County say a multi-vehicle crash has closed a stretch of Route 322 in West Decatur.
According to the 511PA alert page, the highway is closed between Bigler Cutoff Road and its junction with Route 53.
Officials say the crash was reported just after 3 p.m. Sunday.
Authorities say the extent of any injuries is unknown at this time and it is unclear how long the highway will be closed.
